Shasta Lake Guided Bass Trip
The scenery here is second to none, the water is gin clear, we’re often fishing waterfalls, and the bass are stacked in mind-blowing proportions during the spring. Fifty-fish days are extremely common. The fish’s diets consist primarily of “Wakasagi Minnow,” aka “pond smelt,” and shad minnows, which are a perfect fly size. These are great for 6-weight rods, which are very fun when it comes to playing bass.
The main attraction of Shasta is the size and abundance of the fish. There aren’t too many places in the state that can produce such quality fish in great numbers. Shasta Lake is a year-round fishery that has a spectacular winter bite during average years. Fly anglers use the “Float ‘N Fly” tactic during the colder months. Topwater and streamer fishing will be the preferred methods when the water warms. No other bass fishery in California has so many fish ready and willing to hit a topwater fly. Some bass lakes fish better than others for topwater, and Shasta Lake is the #1 best option in the north.
