Jay was a master fly fisher, but I still try to master his trolling skills. At Lake Almanor, we often troll early in the morning with Jay’s flies and his trolling fly lines, which you can still get from Denis Peirce. His link is listed below. I use all of these flies at Lake Almanor. The rule of thumb is to use darker flies on darker days and lighter/brighter flies on light or full-bright-sunshine days. Having a full variety of colors is a must. All Jay’s trolling flies are tied on strong TMC 9395 hooks. All trolling flies are tied to Jay’s specifications, with Mr. Fox dyeing the materials to his specifications.
