King Gray Midge Size 12 - 18
These Brian Chan bomber-style flies have become a staple in my midge box. A great fly that has fooled fish all over the world. One of my favorite midges to use at Lake Almanor, Crowley Lake, Lake Davis, Baum Lake, and Manzanita Lake in all sizes. I use black and/or red midges deep in the water column or anywhere in the water column on dark, overcast days, and gray midges shallow in the water column on bright, sunny days. These midges are bulletproof and can be fished repeatedly without wearing them out. These flies are tied on the Daiichi Model 1760 hook and finished with a tungsten bead. These flies work.
King Gray, AKA Red Banded Gray Zebra, is an excellent fly up shallow (high) in the water column. This fly reflects light on both dark and bright days. This fly should be the top fly on your three-midge rig.
