American River Shad Tour
Have you ever wondered why the American shad of the west coast is called the “poor man’s tarpon?" It's because that pound for pound, they’re the hardest-fighting fish in the river. Shad migrate into the Sacramento River drainage in late spring to early summer and are accessible to fly anglers. These fish are found in the Sacramento, Feather, Yuba and American rivers. They’re a challenging fish, but knowing the right access areas and what set-ups to use can put you in the driver’s seat. The American River Shad Tour will do just that. We will travel the river showing access areas, we will talk about setups and strategic concerns. We will have a barbecue dinner at Sunrise Park and then fish late into the evening.
